I've started working on the new book, 'Rabbits on Skates'. So far, most of the canvas has been prepped, and I'm just starting the very very beginning stages of transferring sketches to canvas, and filling them in with ink.
Have you guys ever seen the show on the Discovery channel called How It's Made? For some reason that show came up in conversation a lot this weekend.
Basically, the program showcases how different products are made, taking the viewer through various stages of its life in a factory, accompanied by soothing soft techno music, and a Mr.Rogers-esque announcer that says, "And then....and then....and then..."
It would be great if I could get that show to stop production at the Twinkie factory, or wherever, and come over to my studio to document some bookmaking. Can you picture it? A little soft techno in the background......"And then...and then....and then.."

Gabe and I took the train to Montana this weekend, to see family, and to have a little adventure. Done and done! It was an amazing time. We cuddled with our little red headed nephew, swam and hiked and sipped tea in the cool springy air.
And oh, oh, oh the train! I love riding the train. In fact, I kind of feel like I'm still on it as I type this..we just got back to Portland this morning, and my brain is still jiggling around inside of my skull.
Anyhow, new projects, paintings and stories are in the works. I'll post some new artwork later this week. Happy Tuesday!
The proof is in the proofs...

Well, I got the proofs in the mail last week, for the Secret Circus book! They look lovely and I think it's finally starting to hit me that this is really happening. The proofs are proof that a real live book is going to come out of those little paintings I made. This still amazes me.
In other book news, there is a wonderful site called Just One More Book, that you should all check out.
Their site says, 'Just One More Book is a thrice-weekly podcast which promotes and celebrates literacy and great children’s books.' and..'Through this podcast and its website, we are building a lively, interactive community linking children’s book authors, illustrators, readers (children, parents, educators and librarians) and publishers.'
It's a wonderful resource and I highly recommend it.
Have a great Tuesday!
