For those of you in the Portland, Oregon area, I'm going to be part of a group show that opens tomorrow at the Wonderland Gallery on Alberta street. This a wonderful new gallery that showcases children's illustrators, and it's run by the fabulous illustrators Lee White and David Hohn.
Here's the scoop:
"Something wicked this way comes to Wonderland Gallery on Alberta St
for Last Thursday on Oct. 25. Wonderland Gallery is celebrating
Halloween with its first group show, showcasing artists from Portland
and beyond. The lineup of artists includes local illustrators Lee White, David Hohn and Johanna Wright, along with, Chris Appelhans
Yoko Tanaka, Catia Chien, Wilson Swain, Jaime Zollars and Karyn Raz."
The gallery, at 1614 NE Albert St., is open Last Thursdays from 5 to
10ish.
Should be a great night! I have two new spooooky originals that are up for sale in the gallery. I'm so excited to be in such great company. Hope to see you there...

This month with the Group Soup, our illustration challenge is from Hansel and Gretel, one of my favorite stories. (Do I always say that the story we're working on is my favorite? I think I might..but it always feels true...)
Anyhoo, I actually have been sketching quite a bit for this project, even though I wrote a whole post the other day about how much I don't like to sketch on paper.
But I did, sketch I mean, and it got me thinking and thinking about the Hansel and Gretel story in a new way. Little details that I guess I've always just brushed over. The whole story is really intense, actually...
I mean, take Gretel for instance. She's so tough! I can't believe she pushed that lady into the oven. Well of course I can believe it, that witch was going to eat her brother. But still, impressive.
Check back on Halloween to see the finished painting, and all of the other works by the other amazing illustrators...
