"Not Awesome" 5" x 5" available on etsy.
Well, Monday again. Ahh. Spent the weekend camping at the beach with Gabe and my sister and family. It was beautiful in a thousand ways, but crazy rainy for part of it.
Now we're back home, drying out our socks and tent, and pants and shaking sand out of everything. And man, do I mean everything.
I've been working on some fun things, including the Rapunzel assignment for the Group Soup! I should have it posted in the next day or two, but other awesome illustrators have already posted. They're wonderful.

Here is my attempt at the new assignment for the Group Soup. As you can see, this month we worked on a book cover for Rapunzel. I wanted to try something that pushed me (illustration wise) a little bit further than I usually go, and this was the result.
I have to say, I'm not all that happy with it, but I feel like it was a good stretch. New muscles in my brain are starting to limber up. Which is probably a good thing. One can hope.

"Jazzercise!" 5" x 5" available on etsy.
It's that time of year again...marathon season! My favorite time of year.
Yesterday was a beautiful day for the Portland marathon, and a hot and miserable day for the Chicago marathon, (which some of you might have heard, was cancelled mid-race due to heat!)
Some of you may also already know, just how teary and wistful I get when it comes to people running marathons. Long distance running is always inspiring to me, everything about it. The dedication, the training, the perseverance... the little cups of water you get to dump over your head. Not to mention the liquid goo and skittles that you get to eat during races...
Ahh, but alas, I've never run one. I've always been on the sidelines cheering and cheering.
So, I made a decision yesterday with all of my guts, that next October, I will run the Portland marathon. For reals! Oh dear, I'm getting teary and wistful just thinking about it.
I thought I would post it here, so it will be harder for me to back out. I'm sure there are going to be plenty of cold and rainy winter mornings when I'm sitting on the living room floor lacing up my running shoes and cringing at the thought of going for a jog. Now, all I'll have to do to get myself out that door and onto the pavement, is just think of the heartbroken, disappointed faces of my readers. Ahh, yes indeedy. All three of you.

The best time of year, hands down. I'm so excited for Halloween!
I think I'm going to be a fried egg this year. My sister picked up some yolk colored felt for me yesterday, so I'm halfway there..
How about you?
marathon update
10.18.07 13:48
So, I proclaimed last week that I was going to run a marathon next year, and I thought I would start a weekly log about the thrilling process. And by thrilling I mean, tedious. Feel free to skip the text and just admire the log. It's probably just as captivating.
As for the training, so far, so good. How's that for an update? I could end it there, but then you would miss out on all of the fascinating details, like reading about the little gel inserts I bought for extra arch support. Riveting!
So, anyhow, I searched around and found a lot of running schedules posted for marathon training, but they all seem to assume that you've been running quite a bit, and I, my friends, have not. In fact, let's just say it's safe to assume I'm starting at zero miles. Luckily I've got time on my side (a whole year to go...)
So, I searched around a bit more and found an eight week training schedule for a 5-K (around three miles) and an eight week schedule for a 10-K (around six miles.)
My plan is to work the first eight weeks towards the 5-K, the second eight weeks towards the 10-k, and spend the next couple of months maintaining that and building speed and strength until April when I start the real meat of the marathon training.
This first week or so has been really great. I've been going to yoga, swimming, walking and a little running. Taking it slow and trying to stick to the regimen. Hence, so far so good. Also, the training has made me start using words like 'hence'.
