fat-cat compilation cd cover.
Good morning friends,
Spring has sprung in our backyard! The cherry tree is blooming, the birds are building their nests on the porch, and shooting me dirty looks every time I step outside. Hurrah!
Let’s see here, what’s new in Johanna land..
Pretty Darn Swell is going to be featuring my "Honeymoon Over Paris" painting, as one of their amazing prints, starting April 24th. It will be available for one month. A portion of the proceeds will be going to Heifer International, a super fantastico organization.
I did the illustration for a compilation cd that fat-cat records is putting out (pictured above), featuring some of their amazing artists. Check them out!!
New paintings of mine are going up in a few weeks at Last Exit in Brooklyn.
Make sure you sign up for the mailing list if you would like updates or reminders about these fun facts.
Have a great Monday everybody!

"Rebuilding the Building" acrylic on canvas.
Hello Friends! Happy blooming Thursday!
Remember this little painting? Well Pretty Darn Swell has reissued some “past prints” and you can now get all kinds of artwork that has appeared on their site over this past year, from many talented artists. It's a great way to start collecting very affordable art, and to support some great causes too.
Prints are $25 and if you would like to buy this particular one, you can, right here. You just need to mention that you would like the “Rebuilding the Building” print when you’re checking out. Part of the proceeds go to the Blue Earth Alliance! Hooray!
Felicity Fenton just posted an interview about yours truly (ahh, shucks) on Art Face Off. You can read it right here.
Have an eggilty peggilty weekend everybody! I’ll be back on Monday after I return from the….Beaver Freezer! Ack!

I got this fantastico orange journal last month, that seems to have some magical properties. Ideas and wishes that I sketch out in this book seem to materialize in a creepy amount of time. Creepy meaning, small. A small amount of time. It’s mind blowing really.
Anyhow, here is a sketch of a mousey to keep your mind off of my entirely precious orange journal that you must not think about trying to steal from me when you see me on the street. Snatching the journal might be hard to do, because I’m incredibly tough at the moment. I finished the Beaver Freezer this weekend with record time. Record meaning, my personal record, and time meaning, incredibly slow. But still, I finished! I woke up humming Alice Cooper's “No More Mr. Nice Guy” this morning. I think it set the toughness tone for the day….

Do you ever see something so beautiful, that you just want to absorb it completely before it disappears? I feel like that about our cherry tree in the backyard. It makes me unbelievably happy, but a little anxious too. I just want to make sure that I spend as much time as possible appreciating it, and staring at, as possible.
I've drawn up a staring schedule that's going to keep me pretty occupied over the next few days. I plan on increasing my staring by at least, forty percent. I think that's only right when you're dealing with something as fleetingly beautiful as, say, a blooming cherry tree.

Brooklyn Bound 20" x 20"
Technically it's still Monday here in Oregon land, so I guess I didn't actually skip my Monday update. The day kind of got away from me, in a weird work-work-work kind of way.
Gabe and I always talk about how as a kid, all you have to do when you're playing house to show that you have 'gone to work', is go to the corner of the room and say, "work, work, work" while moving your hands back and forth really fast.
I had that kind of day today. It's strange working for yourself. The days where everything is tedious and administrative, feel really challenging. Figuring out how to make myself do tasks that I don't want to do, is very tricky business indeed. Sometimes I just feel like I'm sitting at my desk moving my hands back and forth going "work-work-work!"
Anyhow, I made it through a very laborious day of paperwork and shipping, and I finally got a whole new show of paintings shipped off to Brooklyn. At last! Thanks to a lot of good natured humans (Naoto!) I think the show will be going up some time in the next week or two. I had no idea how tricky it was going to be to coordinate something like this from afar, but it seems to be falling into place at last.
There are eleven paintings in all for the show, nine of them are new. Here is a sneak peak of one of them..I'll be posting the rest over the next few weeks.
Have a great Monday.
