vacation! December 16, 2010

(Robot Snow Ball Fight) Holiday card, for Cast Iron Coding.
Woot, Christmas break has begun! My store is closed, events are done, and I'm ready to kick back with some pumpkin bread and hot chocolate. See you in a few weeks!
thank you! December 13, 2010

Baby stretchy time, at Crafty Wonderland!
A big thank you to all 12,000 of you who came out to buy handmade for the holidays this weekend at Crafty Wonderland! Thank you, thank you! The best show ever.
I just want to remind you peeps that my etsy store is closing early this year, December 15th. My store will be closed until the spring, when it will open again, bigger and better than ever.
Sad emails from folks who forgot to order stuff make me sad, so please, please get what you need now!
Thanks again, you lovely humans!
two more days... December 09, 2010

Until Crafty Wonderland!! I can't wait. I LOVE crafty fairs, and this is one is tops.
Coincidentally, I've been getting lots of emails the last few days from Oregon folks who are hoping to buy something specific from my store for the holidays. I know my etsy store is a bit more sparse than usual, but I will have more things (originals and a wider selection of prints, and signed books) at Crafty Wonderland, so this would be a good opportunity for you emaily folks to get what you need.
Gabe and Juniper and I will be there all day, both days, and we're going to be sitting in the middle of a baby palooza. That's another great thing about Crafty Wonderland, it's super kid friendly! So bring the fam and be prepared for a great day. Hope to see you there.
december stuffs December 02, 2010

Hello!
Here is some arty news for you to nibble on with your sugar cookies and cocoa! And a cutie pants picture of Juniper that I couldn't resist. Big love to all. xo
-----------------------------------------------------
I will have a booth at Crafty Wonderland's Super Colossal Holiday Sale at the Oregon Convention Center, December 11th and 12th. This event just grows bigger and more amazingly awesome every year. Hope to see you there!
Black Wagon-- I have an artwork show up at the fabulous Portland children's store, The Black Wagon, running through December 8th. Check it out if you get a chance!
Pop Up Shop-- You can find some of my mini paintings and books in the Crafty Wonderland Pop Up Shop, open in downtown Portland through the holidays. It's gorgeous, and a great place to find a unique handmade gift!
The Bethel Street Gallery in Honolulu, has been kind enough to host my paintings this past year. I will have some new artwork up for the First Friday artwalk, next week. If any of you are lucky enough to live there, or will be visiting in the near future, stop on in and take a look!
I have artwork up in Fuego, in Brooklyn at the moment. Swing by and say hello the friendly folks there! A great place to get gifts for the holidays.
ETSY
--------
Prints are up in my etsy store!
Sorry, no originals will be available on etsy this season. If you're able to make it to one of the events listed above, there are mini paintings, and 12"x 12" paintings available there. My store will close early this year, (December 15th) and re-open, new and improved, in the spring.
thanksgiving November 25, 2010

Happy Thanksgiving! We're so excited to celebrate Juniper's first Thanksgiving here in Portland...(though we're sad to miss Gabe's family and their big ole' Thanksgiving celebration in Wisconsin. Sniff sniff. We'll see you all, soon!)
There are so many things to be thankful for this year, I can hardly wrap my mind around it. Big things..(health, warmth, happiness, love...) and small things..(baby smiles, family snuggles, new paint brushes, piano daydreams, coffee, stolen moments of sleep...) And the list goes on...and on and on....
Have a great holiday everyone! I'm so thankful for all of you. Yes, you!
arc! November 15, 2010

Thanks to everyone who came out to the art opening at Black Wagon last week. It was so great to see all of you, and to introduce Juniper to the masses!
The days have taken on a new shape with this little baby. Time now flows in an arc of naps and nursing and sketching and daydreaming, rocking and bouncing and sleeping (um, a little bit..)...we're loving this new life, and dear little bean.
And speaking of arcs, look what came in the mail! My very own Bandits arc (advanced readers copy, that is!) So exciting. My little brother was kind enough to find a pre-order link for this book on Amazon. Yes!!!
Show at Black Wagon November 06, 2010

I'm going to have some new art up at the fabulous kid's store, Black Wagon on Mississippi. Juniper and I will be there at the opening on November 11th, practicing our dance moves. Hope to see you there!
All Glory (to the hypnotoad..) October 14, 2010

Well, it's been almost three weeks since our little Juniper berry came into the world, and I have to say that this time seems to have blended into one, incredibly long, long, day. It's been filled with lots of loving family and friends, who always seem to be floating into our house like ghosts, bringing groceries and delicious meals, and doing incredibly nice things like washing our dishes. How is it, that I never knew how much appreciated these things are to new parents? Well, now I know. And you can bet your burritos that I'll be passing on these kindnesses in the future....
Backing up a bit, I just have to mention that Juniper's birth was truly amazing. I know most people who have ever had a baby or witnessed a birth feel that way, but it was a huge moment in our lives that I don't want to pass by without mentioning here.
I won't go into crazy detail, but all in all, it went incredibly well. I chalk most of that up to luck and good timing, but partly to the Hypnobabies program that I used for about three months to help me mentally prepare for the big day. Hypnobabies is a hypnosis program that I love and would recommend to anyone, even though I lovingly called it hypnotoad the whole time I was using it (as in, all glory to the hypnotoad..) But it truly had some extremely positive results in my case.
To give you some highlights, labor started for me around 11pm on September 24th where I spent the night listening to my hypnosis tracks, working through contractions in the living room and the shower, and ended with me being raced through the hospital the next the next day like a scene from a tv show, with the nurse wielding the wheelchair yelling at people to get out of the way. We made it to the maternity ward just in time for me to start pushing. We didn't have time to check in, or sign any consent forms, or for me to even get an IV for fluids.
Juniper was born at 1:30 in the afternoon with zero complications, less than an hour after we arrived at the hospital, with the most loving midwife and nurse helping me along the way, and my sister and Gabe holding my hands and crying and jumping up and down.
And then there was Juniper, all black hair and healthy rosy skin, crying so loudly and healthily.
So. Yeah. A pretty awesome day.
When Gabe and I got home from the hospital, our house was like a time capsule..just as we'd left it in the middle of the baby birthing flury. There were millions of wet towels all over the floor, a bagel was still in the toaster, one of my hypnobabies cd's still in the cd player. Craziness!
And here we are, in a new kind of craziness. Baby love, and a sleepless haze, soaking in every minute...
