baby monkey II May 29, 2005

I have a niece! Anika Fern was born just a day after her brother’s second birthday in a spectacular hoopla. I am so happy that my tough, amazing sister and this little baby monkey are healthy and..SO BEAUTIFUL!!!

aquatic May 25, 2005

The theme for this week’s Illustration Friday is aquatic. As you can see, this fish is totally peeved and anxious. He just read an article about the high levels of mercury in the oceans and rivers today, and it made him really emotional. Luckily, this fish is about to write some letters to various elected officials followed by some vigorous swimming...

bus driver May 20, 2005

On a not so sweaty day almost two years ago, a little bitty rabbit came to the earth in the shape of my baby nephew. He grew into a fuzzy blond boy who makes duck food and lawn mowers and towers out of cat food. Happy birthday Captain thEO!

This taco is under attack!!

korea land May 07, 2005

Last fall, I went to Korea to visit my little brother. I found this page from my journal when I was there, and I remembered this snack that we ate called, Deli Manjoo. It's like a little hot waffle with pudding inside. You can buy a whole bag of them and eat them pretty much non-stop because they are very tasty. Also, they're in the shape of a corn.

Next time you are in Korea, I suggest eating Deli Manjoo instead of silkworms.

Home again home again from beautiful Oregon land. Everything smells so GOOD out there. I had a great time, and drew this picture to prove it.

jet plane April 28, 2005

I’m shooting outta here today…homebound for Oregon for the weekend to hang out with my folks and my sisters. Hurrah! I can’t wait to melt into the furry airplane seat and snooze. This week has been one hectic enchilada.

This SCBWI conference was terrific! I had a portfolio and book dummy review that went pretty ok…even though my stomach was doing the spicy hula dance all morning. The rest of the conference was great. I learned a lot, talked to some talented illustrators about pressing issues,(like paper weight and the trickiness of drawing eyebrows) and ate a lot of cheese from the end of a pointy toothpick. Awesome.

big fish April 23, 2005

The weekend is here and I’m putting together the last odds and ends for my portfolio and book dummy review on Monday for the SCBWI illustrator’s conference. I’ve sweated and toiled over the details for months now and it feels so weird to have finished it. I’ve noticed lately that when I finish a project like that, it doesn’t always feel like the Fourth of July, high fiving, margarita drinking finish that I expected. Instead I feel like a crabby dolphin, poking at fishing boats with my nose and looking forlorn. And listless. And slightly grey and slippery.

In bigger fish news, I did stumble onto this fantastico site. What a great place to get some beautiful mother's day gifts..not to mention an amazing organization. Go! Now! Purchase!

re-invent April 17, 2005

Lately I've been listening to a million books on tape, and I've heard one to many about freaky future experiments gone awry. The kind where everyone is on the run or sick or hurt and helpless and people have to eat old soy sausages to stay alive. So I really hope this science guy with the greenhouse, knows what he’s doing. He looks really sweet and concerned...but I think it’s best to keep an eyeball on anyone who is tinkering with giant plants in their pajamas....

new kids April 09, 2005

Here are a couple of newish sites that I think are just awesome. First off Green Girl Art, made by my good friend Wendy Crabb. She is an amazing artist, and a great friend. Wendy always has a remedy or a solution for just about anything, from a scratchy throat to sewing yoga mat bags. What a lady!

Also new on the block, is Unsound Records. This is an amazingly simple site with so much to offer. Two great bands are on the label, The Pages, and The Diminisher. The third artist on the label is yours truly! Some of you may be surprised to learn that I play the ukulele, and that I make up tunes and sometimes paint things to go along with them. If this sounds interesting to you, check out my song series, or take a listen to some songs in the Hanner section of Unsound Records
