ode to angela December 01, 2005
(Thanks to the ever talented Michael for the beautiful and fitting theme music that I have running through my head…)
When you were a kid, didn’t you want to play the drums, like Animal?
I’ve been taking drum lessons for about a year and half with a fantastic lady named Angela. She is one of the most talented, hard working, funny and beautiful people I know. She drums for Holy Ghost, (along with about three million other side projects.)
It’s tough to try something new, and when I first sat down at a drum set, I felt like a robot in a baby factory. Or…a pickle in a peanut parade. But Angela has a way of teaching that makes you feel like you’re completely competent, even when you’re poking your own eyeball with a drum stick.
Over this last year or so, I’ve gotten the hang of some pretty basic drum moves. Even when I’m flailing around like an uncoordinated mass, I feel satisfied and happy that I’m trying…
It just goes to show, that it’s never to late to learn an instrument.
Go! Try! Win!

Hey, I loved that article and that's what made me pick up the phone a few months ago to get in touch with my present guitar teacher (I also e-mailed it to all my family & friends). I've played a few different instruments here and there since I was a kid in a school band. I'm 30 now and am loving my guitar lessons (more than I did when I was 19). Good luck with the drums (and you betcha I wanted to play like Animal).
